The WCA community is filled with meaningful opportunities to have fun and build Christian community. Every year, the student life team and student government association work hard to plan pep rallies, festival days, dress down days, and competitive games. WCA's leadership and faculty also encourage students to take the initiative in creating and running extracurricular clubs. Below, you may find resources for starting a club and a list of registered student organizations.
Have questions? Please email one of the faculty on the student life team.
Student Life team AY 2025-2026:
Jessica Brunk, Director of Campus Life (jbrunk@washingtonchristian.org)
Pedro Enamorado, High School English, History (penamorado@washingtonchristian.org)
Please note, the current roster of active clubs will be updated during the first three weeks of school.
Status:
Approved - club can recruit, meet, and promote!
Pending approval - club has completed the form, found a sponsor, and is determining meeting time and location details
Under review - club is missing form or sponsor, or requires extra deliberation by the principal and student life team.
1) Clubs connected to outside organizations. Any official memberships to state or national organizations must be approved by the Principal. If the membership has a fee, Mrs. Wilgenburg will need to see a proposal for what you plan to charge your club members and how you plan to collect the money.
2) Club supplies. If your club wants to purchase any supplies, please note that I do have a limited budget this year. You can make the request -- but most likely, you may need to collect small donations from members (maybe $5 each?) for certain supplies. You are always welcome to ask, however.
3) Club fundraisers. Clubs must have all fundraisers approved before advertising them or moving forward with them [by principal and registrar]. We must see how they fit within the school's overall philosophy on fundraising philosophy, and make sure they won't conflict with other plans. A very limited number of fundraisers will be approved -- as we do not want our families to have "fundraising fatigue" by being asked too often to pay for raising funds.
4) Club field trips. If you are thinking about doing a field trip with your club -- here are some guidelines
Field trips that would take place during the school day must be approved in advance, but a very limited number will be approved since we already have academic field trips that will be taking place during academic time.
Field trips that take place on nights or weekends are more available
Field trips that utilize parent drivers are more likely to be approved. Field trips that will require a bus or metro are more likely to be approved if the club members are willing to assist with the cost or have supplemental means to aid with the cost.
5) Color printing. All requests for color printing must be approved in advance by the principal. A small number of black/white copies can be made through the assistance of your teacher sponsor.
I'm a student at WCA. How do I start my own club?
Any student wanting to have a Club or Class must submit a proposal to Director of Campus Life (Jessica Brunk) at least three weeks in advance of the club or class start date.
Note: The Guidelines PDF in the button above covers the process for faculty, but most of it overlaps for students.
Purpose – Is it a club or class and what it will accomplish?
Audience – Which students will be invited to attend? How will you advertise it? Is there a minimum number of students required to attend? Will there be students from outside WCA invited?
Student need a list of students committed to become members and regular attenders. Five or more is ideal.
Faculty Sponsor – Which faculty member will be present after school or during lunch to supervise?
Time frame – How often will it meet, e.g. weekly? bi-weekly? What are the times of each meeting?
Place - Where it will meet (specific classroom, field, etc.)? Approval must be given through the Business Office. for the use of the space.
Fundraising - When, why, and how much will your fundraise? Communicate with Mr. Enamorado or Mrs. Brunk about intentions and plans for it. Plans must be approved by the Registrar, Ms. Oluwadare. Common activities include donut 🍩 and coffee ☕ sales on certain days of the week before class begins.
(Optional) Cost – How much is it and what does the cost include? How much, if any, are you expecting to be paid? This payment will come out of the funds collected. All fees must be paid to WCA. Mr. Enamorado or Mrs. Brunk will send your leaders the Funds Collection Form and contact the Registrar for this.
Some clubs have high operating costs, like Robotics Club, which require lots of tech.
Once the Director of Campus Life approves the proposal, please submit a Building Use Form to get the space use approved and a Funds Collection Form to get the payments collected to the Business Office.
What are the expectations for students running a club?
In short, be well organized, stick to your main activities, and have clear decision making processes.
Longer version: Have a clear leadership structure, a method for passing on leadership (avoid all senior leaders), and organized drive with important club documents, regular meetings, good event and club promotion with flyers and announcements, a storage plan for physical supplies.
